Images of Nature

Merle Wasson was born and raised on a farm near Millersburg, Kentucky with a sensitive interest in the outdoors.  At a very young age he used a Kodak box camera that cost less than two dollars to photograph subjects on the farm where he lived. 

Since he was eight years old, Merle has envisioned how the world must have looked before the arrival of so many humans.  He states, “I try to capture this world with every photograph that I make.  The beauty of nature is beyond words, so a quality visual image constantly reminds us of the details of God’s handiwork“.  To capture the meaningful details of any scene requires determination and patience.  Merle tries to take the viewer of his images to the actual event.

During a trip to Australia in 1968, Merle was introduced to 35mm cameras and the world of nature photography.  Since that time, he has traveled to all continents with a camera.  His photographs have appeared in Sierra magazine, several national calendars, National Park publications, postcards, and numerous publications on wildlife and wildflowers.

Merle is dedicated to working on nature subjects in North America.   He also has a passion for East Africa and the High Arctic.  His most recent photo excursions have been to Antarctica and Baja California.  His images are produced to capture the true spirit of the animal kingdom, and he wants his images to build appreciation for all wildlife and the vast landscapes they call home.  Hopefully, his portrayals will be a source of joy and wonderment in your home or office, and that they will inspire additional efforts to protect the animal kingdom and the environment far into the future.

Merle makes his home in Paris, Kentucky with his wife, Janice.
